Some Frequently Asked Questions About Cremation  

Is cremation a popular choice?

Yes, cremation has been steadily growing as the preferred mode of disposition over the last decade and continues. Cremation Association of North America (CANA) predicts that by 2025, 50% of families in North America will choose cremation.

How do I choose a cremation provider? The Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA), Cemetery & Funeral Bureau recommends the consumer to visit and inspect several establishments and compare services, restrictions, rules and prices.
Will cremation be accepted by my religion? Most religions permit you to choose cremation, including the Catholic Church. Some religions actually prefer cremation. If you have any questions, please consult your religious advisor.
Is it possible to have a ceremony with cremation? Yes, a ceremony is possible either before or after the cremation.*
 
Can I have a viewing? Yes, either a private family viewing or a viewing for family and friends can be arranged prior to the cremation.
Must I have embalming? No, however you may choose to have embalming when the services selected include viewing or shipping via air or rail. *
Can I watch the cremation? Witnessing a cremation is possible at our on-site crematory. *
Will I need a casket? No, a casket is not required. You may select an alternative container that is combustible and rigid for cremation.
How will I know the cremains are those of my loved one? Fairmont Cremation Services follows a stringent identification system approved by the Department of Consumer Affairs - Cemetery & Funeral Bureau that starts the moment our care begins and continues all the way through, until the time of release or final disposition.
Can I witness the scattering? We can arrange for you and your family to go out on a boat and scatter your loved one's cremated remains.
Is pre-payment possible for cremation? Yes. More and more, those who are looking to the future by estate planning, writing wills and forming family trusts are also choosing to pre-pay for their final expenses.
What happens after the cremation? There are many options following the cremation including, but not limited to inurnment in dedicated cemetery property, scattering at sea or taking the cremated remains home. You may share with us any specific or special requests.
